The Importance of Cleaning Your Home’s Air Ducts Regularly – NY & CT

Just how clean is the air in your home? Here we’ll look at the importance of cleaning your air ducts regularly to safeguard your health.

We all try and live a healthy lifestyle. We watch what we eat, drink plenty of water, brush, floss and get as much sleep as we can. And that’s great, but the current pandemic has all of us thinking about our health a lot more. Especially when it comes to our respiratory health. Not only are we remembering that little things like washing our hands can be potentially lifesaving, we’re realizing just how much the air we breathe can impact upon our health.

And where better to start thinking about the quality of the air you breathe than your own home?

Your residential air ducts can become home to all kinds of bacteria, fungi and other unpleasant substances if they’re not cleaned regularly. These can irritate the lungs, trigger allergic reactions and endanger the health of everyone living under your roof. This is why it’s so important to clean your ducts regularly.

What’s lurking in your ducts?

The air in your ducts circulates through your home several times every day. You may not be able to see it, but the air you breathe carries tiny droplets of moisture and little particulates of whatever happens to be in your air ducts.

As time goes by, your ducts can become filled with all kinds of unpleasant substances including;

  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Bacteria- including harmful bacterial like legionella
  • Mildew
  • Mold
  • Pet dander

These can settle all over your home as they are carried by the air cycling through your ducts. They can settle on your furniture, in your hair, in your clothes and on your skin. They can aggravate asthma and potentially trigger respiratory conditions like Legionnaires Disease.

Clean your ducts, breathe more easily!

The good news is that cleaning your ducts regularly can help the whole family breathe more easily and safeguard the health of everyone living in your home.

Clean ducts mean fresher air, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your whole family is safe.

How often should you clean your air ducts?

As a rule, the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests that you should clean your ducts every three to five years for optimal indoor air quality. If you spend most of your time at home or have a lot of people and / or pets living under your roof, it’s probably best to err on the side of caution and clean your ducts every 3 years as opposed to every 5 years.

For cleaner air, call The Butlers!

Cleaning your ducts by yourself is risky work. You can potentially do damage to your AC system and it’s difficult to get your ducts completely clean using household cleaning implements.

The Butlers & Air Quality use powerful vacuum and industry standard cleaning products in our duct cleaning services. We work tirelessly across Westchester and Western Connecticut to ensure that the air you breathe is clean, pure and healthy.
